With my iphone, I took photos. The simplicity of one button is inviting. I'm sure, just as much inviting for everyone else in this day of instagram. I notice the difference between the sky and the ground is still great, and the phone always seems to expose for the sky. That's all well and good, but luckily we have auto-focus lock and auto-exposure lock to lighten up the foreground... which doesn't work too great. My frame is dark. To brighten it, I point the camera straight into the ground and then hold to lock the AE and AF. As the gap between the dark and light parts of the scene closes, this isn't so much an issue anymore. It's all composition now.
Having the images on my computer, I try to make it look as good as possible. Lighten the dark parts, and darken the light parts. Add a little contrast. Now you'll have something to look at and maybe even share.
You're a good photographer if you can make it to beautiful places at the right time. You just happen to have a camera and know how to use it.
